Are you a frontline worker for a health or community service in Newcastle? How confident do you feel about understanding and talking to our diverse community?
‘Culture’ embraces a broad range of aspects, from religion to disability, and communities vary greatly from one local area to another. We have devised a flexible programme to build confidence and help you to deliver the best service possible in your community.
This introductory level session is a face-to-face interactive learning programme with activities and open discussion; a safe space to ask questions and listen to real life examples about how improved cultural knowledge has been used to break down barriers and improve health services.
By the end of the session, you will:
- Recognise why it is important to have an understanding of different cultures and beliefs
- Understand key aspects of your local community cultures and wider ethnic minorities in Newcastle
- Feel confident in applying this knowledge to your practice
- Be able to highlight areas for improvement in your own practice and come up with new ideas for enhancing the services you deliver

- Cultural Competency is funded and approved by Newcastle City Council Public Health
- The programme is free to organisations with frontline medical and non-medical staff delivering services to residents in Newcastle
- You do not need to have any prior experience or knowledge of cultures
